Sen. Bong Go has called for stronger and more institutionalized crisis support systems following the Senate’s approval on second reading of Senate Bill 1966, which seeks to formalize the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program.
The measure aims to ensure faster, more consistent, and accessible aid for Filipinos facing emergencies and hardships.
Go stressed that assistance should be given without delay, discrimination, or political interference, citing his visits to disaster-hit communities.
He also said institutionalizing AICS into law would guarantee its continuity regardless of changes in administration.
The bill includes safeguards against misuse and provisions to strengthen funding and implementation through the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
