Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson has backed the Philippine Army’s operation against alleged New People’s Army (NPA) remnants in Toboso, calling it a legitimate encounter.
The April 19 clash in Barangay Salamanca resulted in the death of 19 alleged NPA members, including a high-value target with a reward on his head.
Lacson said the operation was made possible through community information and expressed full trust in the military’s actions.
He also said there is no need for an independent investigation, noting that the Commission on Human Rights is already looking into the incident.
The governor renewed his call for remaining insurgents to surrender and lay down their arms, while the AFP said the operation was based on verified civilian reports and followed rules of engagement.
