The Philippines and the United States have signed a five-year Health Strategic Objective Agreement that will provide up to PHP42 billion in joint funding to strengthen the country’s response to HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and other public health threats.
Under the agreement signed on July 22, the Philippine government will invest more than PHP30 billion, while the US intends to contribute over PHP11.8 billion, subject to congressional approval.
The partnership aims to improve disease surveillance, outbreak response, health service delivery, and the country’s capacity to finance and manage its health system.
The US Embassy said the agreement builds on more than 60 years of bilateral health cooperation and reflects both countries’ commitment to advancing global health security.
The signing coincided with the visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and was described as a milestone under the US government’s America First Global Health Strategy.
