P1 MILLION AWAITS WINNERS IN PACQUIAO-BACKED PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT

The inaugural Maharlika Pilipinas Pickleball Tour (MPPT), founded by boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, will kick off its first leg on Oct. 3 and 4 in Angeles, Pampanga, featuring 12 teams from across the country.

Sanctioned by the Games and Amusement Board, the five-leg tournament offers P1 million to the winning team in each leg as it aims to promote and expand the sport of pickleball in the Philippines.

Pacquiao said the league is designed to develop athletes, inspire future generations, and build a lasting legacy for the sport, with plans to accommodate more teams next year.

MPPT CEO Joe Ramos described the founding teams as the foundation of a professional and collaborative league supported by key partners.

The tournament will continue with two legs in November before concluding with a championship round in December featuring the top eight teams.
