The Senate majority bloc has backed efforts to remove questionable and corruption-prone allocations from the House-approved 2027 national budget.
Sen. Panfilo Lacson said the review would cover all districts, including the first district of Ilocos Norte represented by presidential son Sandro Marcos.
Senate Finance Committee Chairman JV Ejercito has given the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) until Nov. 3 to submit documents for 6,271 newly inserted infrastructure projects or risk having them removed.
The Senate also plans to strengthen transparency by allowing civil society groups to observe budget deliberations and livestreaming the proceedings.
The chamber will begin tackling the proposed budget when plenary sessions resume on Nov. 9.
