Many Filipinos still mistake tuberculosis (TB) for an ordinary cough, causing delays in diagnosis and treatment, a Department of Health (DOH) specialist said.
Dr. Rugaiya Calapis urged those with a cough lasting more than two weeks, unexplained fever, or weight loss to seek medical attention.
She said TB can affect anyone, but household contacts of patients, people with HIV or diabetes, and those in crowded communities face higher risks.
The DOH continues active case finding through community screenings, mobile X-rays, and expanded health center services to detect cases early.
Calapis stressed that TB is preventable and curable when patients seek proper care promptly.
