The National Food Authority (NFA) has reduced palay handling time by 75 percent and costs by 50 percent in a pilot test using one-ton bags instead of conventional 50-kilogram sacks.
The new system cuts handling time from one hour to just 15 minutes and improves warehouse space utilization.
NFA Administrator Larry Lacson said the initiative could make grain procurement and storage more efficient.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the savings could allow the agency to purchase more palay from local farmers.
Lacson inspected the system at the NFA’s Triplex Warehouse in Davao del Sur to assess its performance and identify possible improvements.
