Science Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. emphasized the importance of clear and accessible information in shifting the Philippines’ disaster response from reactive to proactive at the 2025 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva.
He highlighted the need for hazard and risk data to be easily available and actionable for all communities across the country.
Solidum presented two key innovations: GeoRiskPH, a geospatial risk assessment system, and the PlanSmart app, which aids local governments in creating rehabilitation plans.
GeoRiskPH helps with hazard assessment and supports relocation and livelihood planning for affected individuals.
The PlanSmart application is already used by over 350 local government units to streamline recovery efforts following disasters.
