The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) drove a Chinese Coast Guard vessel farther from the Zambales coastline while maintaining patrols over Bajo de Masinloc on December 6.
BRP Cape San Agustin successfully pushed CCG-3303 approximately 135 nautical miles off the coast despite rough seas, while two other Chinese vessels were also detected loitering in the area.
The rotation of BRP Cape San Agustin replaced BRP Cabra, ensuring an uninterrupted Philippine presence around the shoal, a site of repeated tensions with China.
The PCG emphasized its commitment to defending the country’s sovereignty in accordance with international law and the 2016 arbitral ruling.
Bajo de Masinloc, seized by China in 2012, remains a flashpoint in the South China Sea due to its strategic location and rich fishing grounds.
