AUTHORITIES TO REFLOAT SUNKEN TUGBOAT ONCE WEATHER PERMITS

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will refloat the motor tugboat M/TUG SL Sual I once weather conditions improve in Botolan, Zambales.

The PCG will first conduct an underwater inspection before proceeding with the salvage and siphoning of diesel from the vessel.

The tugboat reportedly sank 24 meters underwater and was carrying 15,000 liters of diesel.

A third-party diving team may assist in the operation, with floaters being considered to help recover the vessel.

The PCG and Department of Environment and Natural Resources are also conducting water sampling to check for possible oil leaks.
