Senator Francis Pangilinan warned traders and retailers against profiteering and hoarding during Holy Week amid the ongoing fuel crisis.
He emphasized that the season, which commemorates Christ’s sacrifice, should inspire compassion rather than opportunism.
Pangilinan cited the Price Act, which prohibits selling essential goods at excessively high prices or withholding supplies to manipulate the market, noting that violators face imprisonment, fines, and business closures.
Authorities, including the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Agriculture, are closely monitoring supermarkets, groceries, and wet markets for price manipulation.
The senator also encouraged consumers to report violations and commended businesses that maintain fair pricing despite the crisis.
