Sen. Panfilo Lacson vowed to scrutinize the proposed P107.4-billion flood control allocation for the DPWH in next year’s P7.2-trillion national budget.
He said recent flooding in Metro Manila highlighted concerns over corruption in flood control projects.
Lacson cited allegations that 35% to 40% of funds were lost to kickbacks from substandard or non-existent projects.
He also questioned why the government needs P107.4 billion to repair existing flood control infrastructure.
Lacson said he will seek an updated flood control master plan before supporting the proposed allocation.
