The Presidential Communications Office commended the National Bureau of Investigation for swiftly arresting former broadcaster Jay Sonza over alleged disinformation regarding President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s health.
Acting Secretary Dave Gomez said the move reflects the government’s firm stance against fake news and its effort to protect the public from false information circulating online.
He added that the administration’s “Oplan Kontra Fake News” is being enforced in coordination with law enforcement agencies, the DOJ, and the DICT to hold violators accountable.
Gomez stressed that while public discourse is protected, it must remain truthful and responsible to prevent deception and destabilization.
The Palace also warned that disinformation campaigns targeting the president’s health are being monitored and may be used as evidence for legal action.
