Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla defended the decision to withdraw and review the Pharmally cases filed at the Sandiganbayan, saying the initial pleadings appeared flawed.
He noted that some cases, including one with no alleged government damage, could confuse the court’s jurisdiction.
The reconfiguration follows suspicions over the hurried filing of the P4-billion graft cases before his appointment.
The cases involve the anomalous purchase of medical equipment from Pharmally during the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the company having a small start-up capital.
A Senate probe later revealed that the government-purchased equipment was substandard, prompting scrutiny of the contracts.
