MUP PENSION BILL HITS P143B, NEARLY TRIPLE AFP MODERNIZATION FUNDS

The Marcos administration is proposing P142.95 billion for military and uniformed personnel pensions in 2027, up 6.8 percent from this year.

The amount is nearly three times the P50 billion budget for the Armed Forces of the Philippines modernization program.

Former finance undersecretary Cielo Magno said the rising pension cost highlights the need for long-delayed reforms.

She called for a sustainable system with mandatory contributions while protecting benefits already earned by current personnel and retirees.

The Department of Budget and Management said MUP pension reform remains under comprehensive government review.
