Sen. Rodante Marcoleta was transferred to the New Quezon City Jail after doctors at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) found no need to extend his hospital confinement.
The Sandiganbayan approved the transfer after PGH specialists confirmed that Marcoleta’s medical conditions, including controlled hypertension and mild pneumonia, did not require continued hospitalization.
The court ordered that he be given a separate room and proper medical monitoring at the detention facility.
Meanwhile, his co-accused former congressman Michael Defensor and businessmen Joseph Espiritu and Aristotle Viray pleaded not guilty to the plunder case.
Marcoleta has yet to enter his plea as the court considers his motions to recall his arrest warrant and allow him to post bail.
