Senator Erwin Tulfo urged parents and guardians to strengthen communication with their children to help prevent school violence.
His call came after a gun was found in the bag of a Grade 9 student in Cebu, days after the fatal shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
Tulfo said parents should be more involved in understanding their children’s emotional and mental well-being instead of relying solely on technology.
He also called for greater accountability among firearm owners who negligently allow children access to guns.
Tulfo said legislation is being prepared to impose criminal liability on negligent gun owners and strengthen firearm controls.
