Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. praised local officials in Negros Occidental, led by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, for their initiatives to address insurgency in the province.
He highlighted the province’s reintegration and support programs for former New People’s Army members, implemented alongside the national government’s peace efforts.
Teodoro made the remarks during a visit to the Provincial Capitol before meeting troops in Sagay City and Cauayan town.
He also credited local communities for helping government forces through information-sharing that led to recent military operations against NPA remnants.
The Defense chief said these combined efforts show strong collaboration between the military, local government, and residents in promoting peace.
