The Negros Occidental provincial government is expected to save at least P1 billion over the next 25 years as it transitions to solar energy, according to renewable energy firm WeGen Energy Philippines Inc.
During the opening of the Negros Occidental Renewable Energy Expo 2026 Week, company official Daniel del Rosario Jr. said the province is targeting to source 30 to 40 percent of electricity for government buildings from renewable energy.
He noted that solar installations, starting at the Provincial Capitol and expanding to five more buildings, have already generated about P740,000 in savings in the past eight months.
The initial six projects are projected to save P435 million over 25 years and offset over 25,000 metric tons of carbon emissions, equivalent to planting around 420,000 trees.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the initiative supports the province’s goal of ensuring reliable and affordable electricity while promoting sustainable development.
