Maynilad Water Services Inc. will lower water tariffs for the third quarter starting July 1 due to a stronger peso that reduced foreign debt servicing costs.
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office approved a ₱0.12 per cubic meter rate rollback, driven mainly by a decline in the Foreign Currency Differential Adjustment.
Officials said the peso’s appreciation against the Japanese yen, where nearly half of Maynilad’s debt is denominated, contributed to the reduction.
In contrast, Manila Water customers will see no tariff changes from July to September due to minimal currency fluctuations.
Both concessionaires continue infrastructure projects aimed at improving water supply and service reliability in Metro Manila.
