LTFRB, TRANSPORT GROUPS DISCUSS PROPOSED FARE INCREASE

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board will meet with transport groups on Aug. 3 to discuss pending fare hike petitions prompted by rising fuel prices.

Representatives from jeepney, UV Express, taxi, and motorcycle taxi groups are expected to present their positions during the hearing.

LTFRB Chair Vigor D. Mendoza II said the agency aims to find a fair solution that balances the needs of transport operators and commuters.

The petitions, filed between March and July, will undergo public consultation as part of the regulatory process.

The review follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s earlier decision to defer a fare increase in favor of fuel subsidies and cash assistance for transport operators.
