Former president Rodrigo Duterte will skip the fifth status conference at the International Criminal Court (ICC) ahead of his scheduled trial on Nov. 30 after the court approved his request to waive his appearance.
Duterte, who is detained in The Hague, has instructed his lawyers to represent him and address procedural matters during the hearing.
The conference will cover the trial schedule, witness testimonies, evidence presentation, and security measures.
Duterte faces three counts of crimes against humanity over alleged extrajudicial killings linked to his war on drugs and the Davao Death Squad.
The ICC has also named several alleged co-perpetrators, including Senators Ronald dela Rosa and Bong Go, former Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, and former police officials.
