DMW CHIEF STRENGTHENS LABOR TIES WITH MALAYSIA

Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac met with Malaysia’s Human Resources Minister YB Dato Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan in Kuala Lumpur on July 31 to strengthen bilateral and regional labor cooperation.

During the meeting, Cacdac emphasized the Philippines’ priority at the upcoming ASEAN Summit to promote fair, ethical, and sustainable labor migration across the region.

He also thanked Malaysia for supporting the proposed ASEAN Declaration on Fair, Ethical, and Sustainable Recruitment for Empowered Migrant Workers and Their Families, which is expected to be adopted during the ASEAN Summit in Manila this October.

The two officials discussed measures to enhance migrant worker protection, with Malaysia sharing updates on its foreign worker policies and the Philippines outlining its recruitment and protection framework for overseas Filipino workers.

They also explored stronger collaboration under the Abu Dhabi Dialogue, with the meeting attended by Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Maria Angela Abrera Ponce and other Philippine labor and diplomatic officials.
