Sen. Loren Legarda urged the public to look beyond social media and online games in addressing youth violence, saying the recent school shooting in Tacloban City highlights deeper issues such as trauma, bullying, and mental health struggles.
She called for a thorough investigation into how the minor suspects gained access to firearms, including possible lapses in government gun custody.
Legarda also emphasized the need for stronger cooperation among families, schools, communities, technology companies, and government agencies to better protect children.
She is pushing for stricter online safety measures for minors while stressing that digital safeguards alone are not enough to prevent future tragedies.
Legarda said protecting children requires a shared responsibility to ensure safer schools, homes, online spaces, and communities.
