Sherwin Gatchalian renewed his call for the immediate passage of a bill banning children aged 16 and below from accessing social media, saying it should take priority following the recent school shooting in Tacloban City.
He said the proposed measure would require strict age verification, stronger parental controls, and tighter regulation of minors’ access to social media and violent online games.
Gatchalian also backed reviewing the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, but stressed the need to address the root causes of youth violence.
He urged the government to strengthen rehabilitation through more Bahay Pag-asa centers for children in conflict with the law.
The senator said proper implementation of rehabilitation programs would help reform young offenders and reintegrate them into society.
