NBI SAYS LEGARDA, LEVISTE NOW OUT OF THE COUNTRY

Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste and his mother, Sen. Loren Legarda, left the Philippines separately on Aug. 2, with France as their final destination, according to the NBI and Bureau of Immigration.

Leviste departed a day before the NBI issued a subpoena over an alleged “honey trap” plot targeting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto.

NBI Director Melvin Matibag said the bureau has strong evidence against Leviste but has yet to file charges, as the investigation remains in the fact-finding stage.

The NBI also plans to subpoena four lawyers allegedly linked to the scheme and will give Leviste and former lawmaker Jacinto Paras another chance to appear on Aug. 11.

Meanwhile, Legarda confirmed she took medical leave from Aug. 3 to 5 and denied any connection between her travel and the allegations against her and her son.
