House Deputy Speaker Jay Khonghun challenged Senator Imee Marcos’ claim that lawmakers’ decisions are driven by money or favors, saying such a narrative should also be applied to the recent Senate leadership change.
He pointed to the ouster of Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III and the installation of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, questioning whether financial incentives were also involved in that political shift.
Khonghun warned that baseless accusations of bribery undermine democratic institutions and erode public trust in government processes.
He said senators cannot accuse House members of being paid for impeachment votes while dismissing similar claims about Senate realignments.
The remarks came after the House overwhelmingly impeached Vice President Sara Duterte in a 257-25-9 vote.
