The Taguig City government has launched a free flu vaccination program targeting around 120,000 senior citizens to protect them from pneumonia and other complications.
The campaign, dubbed “Sa Taguig, FLU-tektado sina Lola at Lolo!”, runs from May 11 to 15 and May 18 to 22 in designated vaccination sites across the city.
Mayor Lani Cayetano said the city purchased its own vaccine supply, noting that pneumonia cases often rise during the rainy season and private flu shots can cost ₱2,000 to ₱3,000.
Seniors undergo health screening before vaccination, and those with certain symptoms or conditions may be advised to postpone their shots.
Officials said side effects are generally mild and temporary, including slight fever, body pain, or swelling at the injection site.
