The House prosecution has asked the Senate impeachment court to unseal the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) box containing the tax records of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, lawyer Mans Carpio, for evidence marking during the pretrial conference.
Prosecutor and Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima said the move would allow an inventory of the documents and help ensure a more efficient impeachment trial before it begins on July 6.
The sealed records, which include the couple’s income tax returns, were previously submitted to the House Committee on Justice in connection with allegations of unexplained wealth but remained unopened after a majority of lawmakers voted to keep them sealed.
The prosecution also proposed allowing both Filipino and English during the proceedings to make the impeachment trial more accessible to the public, along with other procedural measures.
Duterte’s legal team, through lawyer Michael Poa, said it has yet to file a formal response to the prosecution’s requests.
