Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Friday warned the public about rising online “love scams,” some of which use artificial intelligence to target victims.
The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center reported 123 formal complaints in 2025, with cases peaking in January–February, June, and October.
Gatchalian said criminals exploit loopholes despite the ban on POGOs, causing victims to lose money or fall into prostitution.
Civil society group ScamWatch and the CICC identified common scam types, including fake romantics, military impersonators, crypto investors, and blackmailers using intimate photos.
Ahead of Valentine’s Day, they launched the “Unmatch PH 2026” campaign to raise awareness and prevent online romance scams.
