A fact check found the claim that the government spends P70 million per day on Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial false, citing the absence of any official records supporting the figure.
Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian said the Senate incurs no additional expenses for the proceedings, as they are conducted like regular plenary sessions while both prosecution and defense shoulder their own operational costs.
The only verified estimate on record is the Senate’s regular daily operating cost of about P25 million, which covers routine expenses regardless of the impeachment trial.
The fact check also clarified that the P125 million cited in the claim refers to a Commission on Audit finding on confidential funds and not the total amount involved in the impeachment case.
It concluded that the viral claim is misleading and unsupported by official government data.
