The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said it plans to leverage strong demand for agricultural products to sustain the growth of Philippine exports amid global uncertainties.
Trade Secretary Cristina Roque cited Philippine Statistics Authority data showing agro-based exports rose 14 percent in May to $698.78 million, driven by products such as processed food, beverages, dairy, snacks, and coconut oil.
She noted that overall exports increased by 7.6 percent to $7.87 billion for the month, while January-to-May exports grew by 10.6 percent year-on-year.
Roque said the DTI will continue supporting exporters through trade promotion, market development, and partnerships with public and private stakeholders to expand global market access.
She added that strengthening high-value agricultural goods will help Philippine products remain competitive despite volatility in global trade.
