The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is reviewing requests from manufacturers of sardines and noodles to increase prices of necessities and prime commodities.
Trade Secretary Cristina Roque said the proposed hike is below 10 percent and is mainly driven by rising logistics and fuel costs.
She noted that sardine makers cited higher fuel expenses for fishing vessels and transport as the reason for the adjustment.
The DTI had earlier secured a commitment from manufacturers to hold prices steady until May 10 while it evaluates the requests.
Roque also said the agency is encouraging price stability, especially with the upcoming school year, and no similar hike requests have been made yet for school supplies.
