The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has created a Labor Attorney’s Office (LAO) to provide free legal assistance to indigent and qualified workers.
Under Department Order No. 258-26, the office will offer legal counseling, mediation, conciliation, referral services, and representation in labor-related cases.
The LAO will also establish a dedicated unit to assist gig economy workers and those employed through digital labor platforms.
In addition, it will open labor justice clinics in partnership with law schools to expand access to legal services and workers’ rights education.
The new office will operate under the direct supervision of the Office of the Labor Secretary.
