MARCOS EASES RULES ON LGU OFFICIALS’ FOREIGN TRAVEL

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has issued Administrative Order 47 allowing the Interior Secretary to delegate approval of foreign travel requests from local officials to designated representatives.

The move amends a 1992 order that gave the DILG secretary sole authority to approve such requests.

Malacañang said the change aims to shorten processing time amid the growing volume of travel requests and regional coordination needs.

The measure seeks to improve government efficiency while maintaining oversight of local governments.

Under the Local Government Code, local officials need presidential approval for certain foreign trips, including those involving public funds or lasting more than three months.
