DSWD ADDS TRANSPORT GROUPS TO CASH ASSISTANCE ROLLOUT

Transport groups will be included in the next rollout of cash assistance under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) expanded Uplift program.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the move recognizes that existing measures, including a P12-per-liter fuel discount, may not be enough to help transport workers amid rising oil prices.

The government earlier announced cash aid for 7.5 million low-income households affected by higher fuel costs.

Under the program, qualified beneficiaries will receive up to P12,000 over six months, while other low-income families will receive additional one-time assistance.

Lopez also said the planned fare hike for public utility vehicles remains suspended to ease the burden on commuters.
