The Department of Health (DOH) has urged local government units to pass ordinances banning the use of vapes and cigarettes in their areas.
While national efforts to regulate e-cigarettes exist, the DOH warned that local enforcement is crucial to protect public health.
Baguio City, which implemented its Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance in 2017, has seen a significant drop in smoking and vaping rates.
However, enforcement is challenged by online and hidden sales of tobacco and vape products.
The city is strengthening public awareness through partnerships with local universities and supports a nationwide ban on vapes.
