Former vice president and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo called for increased investments in preventive health care to reduce the long-term burden on the country’s health system.
Speaking after the Cervical Cancer Elimination Summit in Naga City, Robredo said preventive services such as vaccination should receive greater attention instead of focusing mainly on treatment.
She noted that strengthening prevention efforts could improve public health while helping local governments save resources for other needs.
Robredo also pointed to low screening and vaccination rates against human papillomavirus (HPV), which can help prevent cervical cancer deaths.
She urged the Department of Health and local government units to boost funding and awareness campaigns for preventive care programs.
