The Department of Agriculture has expanded its P20 per kilo rice program to cushion vulnerable households from rising food prices driven by the ongoing energy crisis.
Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordered the scaling up of the initiative by increasing selling hours and opening more distribution outlets nationwide.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the move aims to stabilize food access as higher fuel and logistics costs push retail prices upward.
As of early 2026, the program operates in 932 sites and has served about 6.45 million beneficiaries, including vulnerable sectors such as senior citizens and low-income families.
The expansion is further supported by a new agreement between the National Food Authority and Food Terminal Inc. to ensure sufficient rice supply and strengthen distribution nationwide.
