The Department of Tourism (DOT) launched two key initiatives to boost the Philippines’ culinary tourism: the Strategic Framework and Roadmap for Food and Gastronomy Tourism, and Market Tourism as a new sub-product.
These programs aim to promote Filipino gastronomy globally and transform local markets into cultural tourism hubs, supporting community-based tourism and sustainable development.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco highlighted milestones like the Michelin Guide’s arrival and the recognition of cities such as Iloilo and Angeles for their culinary heritage.
The launch included a culinary tour of Malabon, showcasing its rich food culture and iconic dishes, as well as a cultural food walk in Binondo, Manila’s historic Chinatown.
DOT plans to expand the Market Tourism program nationwide, emphasizing gastronomy as a central pillar of the country’s tourism strategy.
