A Department of Tourism (DOT) official said that affordable tour packages can encourage Filipinos to travel locally and help boost the economy despite rising oil and commodity prices.
DOT Undersecretary Shahlimar Hofer Tamano emphasized that initiatives like regional travel fairs support tourism businesses, create jobs, and promote the country’s destinations.
He said tourism also strengthens cultural appreciation and cooperation among stakeholders in the industry.
The three-day travel fair organized by the Tourism Promotions Board gathered around 70 exhibitors to showcase tour packages and connect with partners.
DOT-CAR officials added that regional tourism continues to grow as a driver of jobs and economic development, contributing 8.9% to the country’s GDP in 2025.
