China’s Ambassador Jing Quan urged the Philippines to engage in dialogue to manage differences and avoid long-term damage to bilateral relations, noting that confrontations with a smaller neighbor can harm ties.
He emphasized resuming face-to-face talks after political dialogue had stalled, while condemning “false narratives” that smear China.
The call comes amid tensions over West Philippine Sea issues, including a Senate resolution condemning Chinese embassy remarks and the banning of Kalayaan town officials from China.
The DFA said China’s ban does not help strengthen bilateral relations or people-to-people interactions.
Philippine officials, including Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, reaffirmed sovereignty over Kalayaan and vowed to continue asserting the country’s claims in the area.
