China’s Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan has proposed to the Department of Foreign Affairs the revival of a common fishing area in Bajo de Masinloc, similar to an arrangement reportedly in place a decade ago, to help ease tensions in the disputed waters.
He also suggested expanding cooperation on joint oil and gas development as well as projects in agriculture, renewable energy, waste-to-energy, and electric vehicles.
Jing stressed the importance of dialogue and stability in China-Philippines relations, saying differences should be managed through direct communication.
He said political consultations between the two sides have resumed, with multiple rounds of talks and a recent visit by a Chinese delegation to Manila to develop a diplomatic roadmap.
He also noted growing people-to-people exchanges, including increased tourist flows, and highlighted long-standing trade ties and cooperation between the two countries.
