Senator Risa Hontiveros welcomed the issuance of an arrest warrant against Michael Maurillo, also known as “Alyas Rene,” calling it a key step in holding individuals accountable amid controversies linked to the Senate’s investigation of Apollo Quiboloy.
The Pasay City Regional Trial Court issued the warrant on Feb. 9 over a cyber libel case under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Hontiveros emphasized that Maurillo voluntarily provided information during the Quiboloy inquiry and was neither coerced nor paid.
She urged Maurillo to cooperate with authorities and reveal the “bigger fish” allegedly behind Quiboloy’s operations.
The case is among the first legal actions arising from disputes over testimonies and claims tied to the Senate probe, and Hontiveros said her office may pursue further action against those spreading false information about her on social media.
