The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has identified nine more contractors who may have given prohibited donations to candidates in the 2022 elections, adding to the initial 34 contractors previously reported.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia said show-cause orders will be issued to the 43 contractors, requiring them to explain their actions within five days.
The donations were made to seven national candidates and 15 political parties and party-list groups, with some contractors donating to multiple candidates.
Garcia also announced that show-cause orders will soon be issued to the candidates and parties involved.
Both donors and recipients face criminal charges and possible imprisonment if found guilty, especially since government project contractors are banned from contributing to election campaigns.
