Myanmar has released 78 Filipinos who were detained for immigration-related offenses, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Philippine Embassy in Yangon is now coordinating with Myanmar authorities to facilitate their repatriation.
Authorities said the Filipinos were trafficked to work in scam centers and had been serving sentences for illegal entry and residency.
Their release coincided with the Thingyan, which the DFA described as a gesture of goodwill between the two countries.
The Philippine government expressed gratitude and reiterated its commitment to protect overseas Filipinos while pursuing action against illegal recruiters.
