Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson commended President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for securing the release and repatriation of 24 Filipinos who had been detained in Russia for nine months.
Lacson described their return as one of the most significant outcomes of the President’s recent visit to Russia, saying it deserved greater public recognition.
The Filipinos arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in two batches after their release was authorized by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Department of Foreign Affairs, with assistance from the Department of Migrant Workers and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, coordinated the repatriation.
The workers, who had been employed as cleaners in Russia, were reportedly detained over immigration issues after allegedly falling victim to illegal recruiters.
