ASEAN foreign ministers will hold an informal meeting with Myanmar Foreign Minister U Tin Maung Swe in Bangkok on July 12, marking their first in-person engagement since Myanmar’s 2021 military coup.
Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro will chair the meeting, which will be hosted by Thailand.
The ministers are expected to discuss recent developments in Myanmar and explore ways to strengthen ASEAN’s engagement while upholding the bloc’s Five-Point Consensus.
The talks will also focus on efforts to end violence, promote dialogue among stakeholders, and expand humanitarian assistance in Myanmar.
