Forty-eight former election candidates from various provinces are facing material misrepresentation charges before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The charges, which include two barangay and 46 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) candidates, stem from alleged false claims made in their certificates of candidacy (COCs).
Of the SK candidates, 41 vied for council positions and five for chairmanships, while the barangay candidates aimed for Sangguniang Barangay membership.
The candidates facing these charges hail from multiple provinces including Abra, Albay, Antique, and others.
Material misrepresentation, which involves false statements about age, residency, or citizenship, is a criminal offense under the Omnibus Election Code.
