A youth group on Friday urged the Office of the Ombudsman to immediately file charges against Senator Joel Villanueva over his alleged involvement in a Bulacan flood-control project controversy.
Samahan ng Progresibong Kabataan (SPARK) questioned the delay, noting that Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla had earlier said the case was ready for prosecution and could be filed within two weeks.
The group alleged that the case involves the diversion of at least P150 million intended for a flood-control project and raised concerns that political developments in the Senate may have influenced the delay.
SPARK also called on the Ombudsman to uphold its independence and ensure accountability regardless of political affiliation.
As of posting time, neither the Ombudsman nor Villanueva’s camp had issued a statement on the group’s allegations.
